PRESS RELEASE: MAY 2007

BARNSLEY SOUNDS GREAT SAYS WAVEPLAY

Barnsley is rapidly becoming the first choice for businesses in the creative and digital industries and the latest business to establish itself here is Waveplay, a production, events and digital media company.

Waveplay chose Wharncliffe Business Park in Carlton as the perfect location in which to base its audio visual and video production business that works with bands, such as Bjorn Again and Paramore, as well as large and small companies across the UK.

Andy Brownrigg and Adam Shell, who were previously based in Wakefield, contacted Barnsley Development Agency as they were looking for a convenient location that offered extra storage space as well as room for expansion.

Steve Hawkins from Barnsley Development Agency provided details of a number of new light industrial units in the Barnsley area that met Waveplay’s needs. Andy, Adam and business partner Jamie were immediately impressed with the high specification of the premises at Wharncliffe Business Park and the site’s close proximity to the M1 motorway.

Barnsley Development Agency’s Steve Hawkins explains: “With the new Digital Media Centre being developed in the town centre and funding currently available for businesses in this industry, it has never been a better time to locate here. Over the next couple of years we expect to see Barnsley become a hub for the creative and digital industry and Waveplay is in a great position to make the most of this."

Waveplay chose a 1,500 sq ft unit and installed a mezzanine floor to maximise available space for their editing suite and for the storage of audio visual equipment.

Adam Shell of Waveplay explains: “We are really excited about our move to Barnsley. We are already looking at developing links with companies in the digital and media industry locally and are keen to show that here in Barnsley we have some of the best production and multimedia facilities in the UK.”

Barnsley Development Agency has worked closely with developer Priority Sites and agent Chris Rowlands & Co to market Wharncliffe Business Park and to offer business support to companies who chose to locate here. The development has been so successful that there is now just one unit remaining.

Part of Barnsley MBC, Barnsley Development Agency’s Investment & Development Team offers both new and existing businesses locating to the area a friendly and professional service, free of charge.
